LIVING AWAY FROM HOME

Is it a good option living away from home while you’re a university student?

People between eighteen and twenty years old, when they start university, the share a flat with other people away from home. Is this a good idea?

On the one hand, if you have depended your whole life on your parents, it’ll be very difficult not to do it. But I think that it’s a good option because you will mature a lot and very quickly.

On the other hand, you’ll probably miss your family and the first days you will be calling your parents and ask for help and it’s more expensive than living with your parents. But also, living with friends is very funny and you have more independence.

In conclusion, living away is better than living with you parents because you learn how to do things alone or without help although the first month it won’t be easy.

JUDGE OTHERS

Can we judge others by the way they look? Obviously not. I strongly believe that a  person’s appearance doesn’t say anything about herself.

First of all, I’ve to say that humans need to judge others because it’s inevitable, but we don’t have to be influenced by it. If you do that, you might be wrong because you don’t know this person.

Secondly, a lot of times I’ve judged a person and at the end, she has ended up being my best friend. Also, you don’t have to do what you wouldn’t have to be done.

In conclusion, people need to judge others but this cannot influence us. probably, this person is one of the best in the world but because of the prejudices you’ll never know it.

BLETCHLEY PARK

Dear Bletchley Park’s director,

Thank you very much for giving  me this opportunity to explain why I’m the worker that you have been looking for.

First of all, I’m able to speak a lot of languages. For example, French, Spanish, Catalan, German and English. I’ve been studying languages since I was three years old, and also I have travelled a lot of times around the world to practise them.

Secondly, I’m also very good at keeping secrets and I promise that I’ll always be discreet. I don’t mind obeying orders.

I hope you will consider my application favourably.

Yours faithfully,

Lorena Egea.

LOVE-LOCKS

Are love-locks romantic or a menace?

All the couples that travel around the world and they see love-locks on a bridge, they do the same but… is this a dangerous practice?

On the one hand, a lot of studies say that some bridges can’t hold all the locks that couples put there. In the long run, this can be a menace because the bridge is at risk of falling. As a consequence, a lot of cities have forbidden this practice.

On the other hand, this practice is very romantic but, after all, it’s a legend and it’s not real. If you put a love-lock, your love it’s not safe. A simple lock isn’t going to keep your relationship safe .

To sum up, even it’s very romantic, it’s also very dangerous and we should stop it.

Should student's textbooks be replaced by notebook computers? Yes, of course.
I strongly believe that replacing textbooks by notebook computers has a lot of advantatges that will improve society and people's economy.

First of all, millions and millions of tones of wood are being used to make the textbooks that our children use at school. For this reason, we have to look after the planet and not we them. Also, in the future, people will use new tecnologies  at their job, so they have to know how to work with computers and tablets.

Secondly, some people want to modernize and change the educations system, so this is a great chance to start doing it. Don't be afraid to pay two hundred euros for one notebook computer because, at last, you will save money.

In conclusion, replacing textbooks by notebook computers is a good idea that we have to start doing right now.
SCHINDLER'S LIST REVIEW

The film is about Oskar Schindler and one friend of his, Itzhak Stern who is Jew. Oskar helps the German Nazi reign and kills some people, but he saves about 1100 Jew's lives.

PHRASAL VERBS NATÀLIA AND LORENA
IS MEAT IRREPLACEABLE?

In an effort to combat climate change, we've decided to reduce or eliminate the consumtion of meat. We think that the best is a balance between these two options.

First of all, different studies prove that an abuse of meat consumption isn't sustainable. Cattle emit al least the 50% of greenhouse gases, the 30% ifthe world's land is used for raising animals for food uses although raising half a kilogram of beef uses up to 19000 litres of water that is equivaklent for you to showerfor a year. It's proven trhat the intake of meat reduces the risk of heart attacks, obesity or diabetes.

Nevertheless, there are some properties of meet that can't be replaced by just vegetables. For example, iron found in  meat is much more easily absorbed by the human body and also the vitamin B12 is only found in the animal protein. Moreover, eating meat helps human's brain to develop correctly, it also halps many families in their livelihood.

In conclusion, we think that the best solution is finding a balance between the abuse and the elimination of the consumtion of meat because, even though the proteins of meat are very important, there are some pills that can give you those proteins without the necessity of eating meat, which means that the balance is possible. Due to that, we think that with this solution we're going to keep our good health and also it is going to help to preserve the animals and the planet situation.

Fpr example the II World War. You can also have fun in Disneyland, specially if you have a son or a daughter. There you can see a lot of Disney characters. The Eiffel tower is a breathtaking and an incredible place to visit.

A DESCRIPTION OF A PLACE

LONDON

London is a city situated in England and the United Kingdom. This famous city has got a lot of important monuments and most of them are free. And it's the typic city that you have to visit before death. I promise that you will feel in love with it.

There is well-known for the Big Ben, which is a breathtaking tower with a giant clock. When I went, it was under construction, so I couldn't see it well. Also, you can find a lot of museums: for example the Tate Modern, situated at the old power plant of Bankside; the British Museum is a place where you can learn about the history of London; and you can also visit the Natural History Museum. All these museums are free and everyone can go and learn and also have fun.

I liked Camden Market and the Trafalgar Square a lot. The first place is a market where you can buy a lot of things, specially souvenirs. The second place is a very famous square with a fountain on it. Finally, you can go to the London Eye, a wheel near the River Thames.

I recommend a visit to London and all their neighbourhoods without any doubt, for example, China Town. You can do a lot of things there and you will enjoy it very much.

FOR AND AGAINST

ARE SECURITY CAMERAS A GOOD OPTION
                                   FOR OUR DAILY LIFE?

All the places where I go have a security camera in different parts of the building, but probably, not all the people like it. Are security cameras a good option for our daily life?

On the one hand, all the people think that security cameras are a good option for the police investigations. For example, if a robber or a murderer does anything illegal, people will carry at this investigation more easily. And at school it is the same. Not here in Catalonia, but in the USA some children shot others at schools.

On the other hand, some people think that it's a little bit strange going to a supermarket, to a school, to a gym anda lot of cameras are recording you all the time.

In conclusion, I think that Iprefer to be safe that unsafe, obviusly I don't like security cameras at the toilets, but in the others parts it's fine.

SHOULD THE PERSONAL USE OF DRONES
BE BANNED?
Today, drones are used fo a lot of things. Some people think that they are very
dangerous so they should be banned for the personal use. Is it a good idea to
ban drones?

On the one hand, drones are a good option to take pictures from the sky.
Besides they can give you a package that you have ordered online or
people that organise a concert can use them to watch for dangers. For
example, one boy has disappeared ant the police can use it to look for
the boy.

On the other hand, drones can be harmful. The other day, we met a girl
who was taking pictures with a drone an she cut her leg so we think that
if you want to use a drone, you must have a license to avoid dangers. All
the people have to know how to use drones.

In conclusion, we think that it shouldn't be banned, but it’s important that
anyone who has a droneknows how to use it and has a permission to use it.

E-mail with no mistakes

Xavi, I write the first informal e-mail that we did, not the exam one, beacause I don't have it.

AN INFORMAL E-MAIL

Hi Wayne!

I'm writing to tell you about myself.
I'm from Santa Margarida de Montbui a little town of Spain. I've got one little brother. His name is Alex. My mother, called Yolanda, works at the sports centre of my town as a recepcionist. However, my father, called Javi, works as a mechanic.
I live in a house, my grandparents live on the first floor and on the second floor my family and I.
I used to play handball at the past, but nowadays I don't.
I'm doing "first batxillerat", it's very difficult but I think that I can do it very well.
Why an exchange in New York? Because I love learning different languages and also I want to improve my English. I like making new friends too. And I would like to see different cultures.

That's all for now.

All the best,
Lorena.
